Theresa May vows to ‘keep faith’ with Brexit voters and stop Parliament overturning the EU referendum

The Tory former Attorney General wants Parliament to take control of the negotiations if no deal is reached, and get the final say.
THERESA May has vowed to "keep faith" with Brexit voters who demanded Britain leave the European Union, and continue to fight anyone who opposes it.
Ahead of crunch votes this afternoon in the Lords which could spark another Commons crisis for the Prime Minister this week, she warned that the public wanted politicians to get on with leaving.

Speaking after making a key speech on the NHS today, she insisted that it was vital politicians pass through the European Withdrawal Bill without any major hiccups.
And she demanded to stay strong and fight anyone who tried to water it down, describing it as "an important piece of legislation".

Mrs May vowed: "I hope everyone would see that - that's why we keep faith with people who have voted to leave the European Union."
She went on to add: "Many of those who didn't now say 'actually, get on with it' - we need to ensure we're putting this legislation in place."

The Prime Minister insisted that "of course we've been listening to concerns about the role of Parliament but we need to ensure that parliament can't overturn the will of the British people."
Her words come just hours before Lords are due to vote on reintroducing changes to her flagship Bill later today.
Last week MPs overturned most of the 15 amendments which the Lords slapped on to the EU Withdrawal Bill, and some were tweaked into a compromise.
But later meddling Peers will try to block the Brexit Bill yet again and demand that more alterations be made.
The crunch decision will come on a so-called "meaningful vote" - Lords have said they will introduce an amendment along the lines of chief rebel Dominic Grieve's one last week. Advertisers website

He pulled it at the last moment when the Prime Minister promised him and other Tory Remainers more say on what happens if no deal with the EU is reached.
But after the details of the deal were released, the rebels still weren't happy and promised to inflict more defeats on Mrs May if she didn't give them what they wanted.
If the Lords pass their amendment and defeat the Government tonight, it will set the stage for a Commons showdown in the coming days - where Mrs May could yet again face a damning defeat.
