A GLOBAL plot to destroy Brexit is unleashed. Who will stand up now for the 17.4million Leavers whose votes it seeks to annul?

It is time for the Government, and all MPs, to defend our democracy and those whose voices must prevail on Brexit: the winners of the biggest vote in our history.

Almost two years on, our exit is in chaos. Remainers still denounce the referendum, advertised as binding by David Cameron, as “unfair” or “illegal”.

Our paralysed Government is openly mocked by belligerent and stupid EU bureaucrats with no intention of making progress or keeping relations cordial.

Former world leaders  urge Brussels’ negotiator Michel Barnier to crush Brexit,  like he needs any  encouragement.

And a shadowy campaign financed by a hedge-fund billionaire wages all-out war on our decision. “Best for Britain”, they laughably call this. As if it’s “best for Britain” to destroy all faith in our democracy and trigger civil unrest.

Remainer politicians shamefully do its dirty work in the Commons and Lords.

And even the more “moderate” ones pretend a “Norway-style” deal is a reasonable compromise MPs can support.

But that’s not a half-way house. It’s a prison. It surrenders immigration control forever. It abandons Theresa May’s vision of a “global Britain”. It makes us subservient to the EU for all time.

How would that fulfil the clear message sent by 17.4million Leavers? They are being belittled and ignored by an arrogant  elite, both here and abroad.

When will the Prime Minister and her Cabinet stand up for them — and for Brexit in full? Instead, the whiff of panic emanates from Downing Street.

The Government has no idea what deal it wants. The latest plan for the Irish border has been trashed overnight. No10 regurgitates clichés to mask its confusion.

In Brussels, Barnier no longer even pretends: “We don’t want to negotiate,” he admits. “We don’t want to compromise.”

It falls to Theresa May to drag us out of this swamp. We don’t envy her, but she needs now to make a decision.

It is increasingly obvious no deal can be struck with the EU. Brexit-backing tycoon Sir James Dyson saw that coming many months ago. He also says it won’t much matter — trade will go on, and the WTO tariffs we will have to pay can be compensated in other ways.

Plus,  we can bank our £39billion.

It won’t be a smooth ride, but we won’t be bullied for ever by the EU either.

Mrs May cannot kick the can any further down the road. She must be realistic, assertive and brave.

There are talented  Tories around her.

If this PM can’t bring her party with her and lead us fully out of the EU, with no deal if necessary, she must make way for someone who can.
